Sublime is the quality of transcendent greatness. hmph..who knew?
I thought I did, until this word started popping up every two sentences in my text. Sure its got a latin root that goes something like ‘sublimis’ which means high, exalted, but then why not use a more entertaining word instead? Instead of sliding off your tongue, how about a ‘r’ rolling and tongue-clicking, heel-tapping spanish word ‘fantastico’ ?

Cafe by Meiroun is a comforting image in a very uncomfortable present.
I made a huge mistake of ‘watching’ the news today, that too Al-Jazeera’s series ‘Children of Conflict’. A fourteen year-old casually remembers her grandmother, who voluntarily gave her life in a suicidebomb attack, making bread the morning of her death. Surveying her life in skeletal Gaza, its no surprise she is convinced martydom is the way to go for herself. Zero amenities, zero security, sporadic education, toddlers toting toy guns…Life is painfully raw for these children.
I wonder where God is, and when will us humans get our act together?

|I feel something,
its been eating away at me,
that I have read the loud proclamations of those who went before,
now their words lie forgotten and yellowed on bookshelves,
and its pains me to see such wonderful thoughts and unique observations cannot compete with the ease of electronic media.
Will my words suffer such a fate?
I shudder to think, the machine replacing well worn or crisp page, that highlighters of yellow kind will become obsolete,
as Shakespeare’s Macbeth is learnt online,
‘double-click for notes’,
perhaps this is the true face of progress,
change in the basic routine so that our feather get ruffled at the idea,
of say books losing out to the computer,
authors adjusting to the net.
I want written print to matter,
for people to pick up the fruits of my labor, pore over the leaves, scribble, underline, Xerox, cover, highlight, and share,
enough that when they lay my book/article/poem down
it will make them say,
(as I once did)
“I Want To Write And Be Read!”.

Read this piece on Dubai on Slate that explores the ‘cultural dynamic’ and the positives that come with. Why I really clicked on it was because it came under the heading of “Looking for mammon in the Muslim World”.
Learned my horoscope is this according to the Onion:
Gemini May 21 – June 21
Despite your attempts to make it look like an accident, investigators will immediately suspect you of burning down your wife (husband in my case) for the insurance money.
